ATLANTA, October 22, 2024 - The Educated Choices Program (ECP) has been awarded the Sprouts Farmers Market Healthy Communities Foundation Wellness Across the Lifespan Grant. This funding was granted for ECP’s "Healthy Aging," an education package designed with older individuals in mind, encouraging them to explore the relationship between food and common chronic illnesses that many adults are concerned about.
The foundation awarded four million dollars to neighborhood elementary schools and local nonprofit agencies this year. Each grant provided organizations $5,000 to $10,000 for school gardens, children’s nutrition access, education, health and wellness, or adult health and wellness.
ECP will use this funding to share “Healthy Aging: Enhancing Healthspan with Plant-Forward Nutrition," one of the organization's first resources specifically created with older adults in mind. The grant will improve the reach of these materials, allowing more individuals in community centers, hospitals, care facilities, and retirement homes to learn how integrating healthier choices into their diets can prevent and potentially reverse chronic illnesses such as arthritis, dementia, and cardiovascular disease, and extend healthspans.
“We are thrilled to partner with so many incredible grassroots organizations and schools that share our commitment to helping children and adults live healthier lives,” said Lyndsey Waugh, executive director of the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation.
Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation has awarded over $25 million in grants to organizations dedicated to nutrition education and wellness since 2015, with an estimated 3 million children participating in supported programs each year.
