ECP Attends SHAPE WA for a Healthy, Active, and Educated Youth

The Educated Choices Program recently had an exciting opportunity to share our resources with health and physical educators and administrators at the annual SHAPE WA conference in Tacoma, Washington. The event consisted of those intending to foster healthy, active, and educated youth in Washington State, making a perfect audience to share many of our health-related presentations, including Healthful Eating, Micronutrient Rainbow, and Plant-Forward and Powerful

ECP’s Communications Engagement Manager Amber Snyder represented our organization at the event. In response to educators expressing a need for food education solutions in their classrooms, Snyder provided a live demonstration of ECP’s digital resource library, showing attendees how the platform seamlessly integrates simple food education into classrooms.

The audience showed particular interest in the accompanying resources available with each video presentation. As Snyder navigated through quizzes, lesson plans, activities, discussion prompts, and homework options, participants became excited about the numerous interactive materials available to them and their students. Educators were impressed with the convenience of these pre-made resources, stating it would reduce the time spent on lesson planning, making their jobs easier.

With an audience consisting of health and physical educators, we shared a common interest in empowering students to make food choices for improved personal health. Snyder was able to share topical education packages, sharing the science behind dietary choices and chronic disease prevention, athletic performance, public health concerns, micronutrients, and macronutrients. The response? Educators were impressed with the vibrant, custom animations in each video presentation and how our ECP presents important health concepts in an easily understandable and inspiring way.

Our commitment to accessibility and inclusion was a highlight of the event, as several educators discussed their desire to find food education that would meet the needs of their diverse classrooms. As part of our ARDI initiative, graphics, language, and other content that resonates with our international audience are prioritized to engage and represent as many students as possible.

One final topic of conversation was primary education curricula. Teachers were enthusiastic when Snyder shared ECP’s plans to create food-education packages tailored specifically for a younger audience of ages 8 to 11. These resources are expected to be available by the end of the school year, with updates to come as they are available.

Our team welcomes prospects to speak with educators and administrators directly, and the SHAPE WA conference was a great opportunity to share our food education solutions, answer questions about our program, and get insights into the needs of a local teaching community. We look forward to building upon the relationships formed at the event and furthering ECP’s mission of working together to build a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
